Leaves of the Desert
Leaves are everywhere around us. We marvel at them during certain times of the year, such as in autumn when they change colors and fall from the trees, or during spring and summer when they are at their best.
People often sweep leaves away or discard them, but many also enjoy spending time with them. I have always been drawn to leaves and wanted to preserve them so I could appreciate their beauty later.
I tried placing leaves between the pages of a book; after a few days, the leaves would be dried and preserved. However, some leaves turn black or disintegrate within days, and others stay green but are of little value.
After extensive experimentation, I discovered a method to preserve leaves in excellent condition. I mount the leaves and frame them using re-purposed or new frames.
These are the leaves of the desert, mainly in Arizona.
